The 22nd Executive Committee Members (2026-2027)

When I was in Year 1, I learned about the UC Toastmasters Club via email and decided to sign up with my friends. Looking back, it was definitely a fulfilling experience. Every meeting, we practiced our public speaking skills on stage and motivated each other to improve. After that, we had our usual night snack and bonded with one another. Drawn in by the club’s warmth, I joined the ExCo as the Vice President of Education in Year 2 and watched our membership soar past 90. I am truly grateful for all the joy and memories that UCTMC has brought me. I hope I can continue to sharpen my leadership skills and give back to the UCTMC family even more as the President this year.

UCTMC helped me become more comfortable speaking up and taking initiative by giving me a space to practise communicating without worrying about being judged. Through late-night snack sessions, parties and meetings, I’ve also made a close circle of friends at uni. Overall, it’s just a great community with good vibes and people I genuinely enjoy spending time with. I’m serving as VPE this year to give back to the club and hopefully help others grow more confident in public speaking too.

Hii everyone! I’m Emily (Lam Tue) from Vietnam. Currently, I’m serving as one of the Vice President of Education in UCTMC 2026-2027. In my heart, Toastmasters holds a special place, where I made my first closest friends at CUHK :) As a fellow international student, I struggled quite a lot to talk to new people because of the language and cultural barrier, but in Toastmasters you meet people from all kinds of majors and background. Everyone was given the space to express themselves and step out of the comfort zone; it was interesting to witness your own growth as not only a confident and eloquent public speaker, but also as an attentive listener!

What I love most about the club is that the meetings don’t simply end when everyone leaves the room, you get to bond with your club-mates at UCTMC ritual midnight snacks, karaokes, volunteering, joint-meeting events and hot-pots. Despite not being a toast-cooking club, the club activities do revolve a lot around food (haha). I’m beyond grateful for my 1-year-journey with UCTMC, and I hope it could become  someone’s new home from home too!

From the beginning of my university life, I chose to join UCTMC because of its nature of being an English public speaking club and thought it would be just a place for me to practice my language ability. However, when times go by, the position of UCTMC to me is no longer a place like that, but a place where I could always gather with my beloved friends and share our thoughts without hesitations. We even gathered tons of times in spite of the meeting dates to do other things else! Looking into this place where I have my sense of belonging, I continued joining the club as a VPE and want to see the growth of the club. I genuinely believe that UCTMC is a place that gave me joy and memories without any burden like other society events.

Since joining UCTMC, I have never regretted my decision; it has been a truly wonderful experience!

When I first joined as a member, I was immediately struck by the Club’s supportive and welcoming atmosphere. It provided a safe space for me to practise public speaking, build confidence, and learn from others. Through the Club, I have also met many wonderful friends.

Being a member of UCTMC has helped me develop many valuable skills. Through workshops and regular meetings, I learned advanced communication techniques from experienced speakers. Moreover, serving as the Club’s president last year gave me excellent opportunities to strengthen my leadership and networking skills.

Looking back, joining UCTMC was one of the most rewarding decisions of my university life!

When I first joined Toastmasters, it was simply because I heard about the possibility of earning hostel points. But a year later, that is no longer the reason I stayed. What kept me here was the chance to be part of a supportive and loving community filled with talented and ambitious people. Over the past year, Toastmasters has given me comfort, offering a welcome break from academic studies while helping me grow more confident in speaking my second language, English. I am truly grateful for all the joy and encouragement this club has brought me, and I hope to see Toastmasters continue to grow, creating the same memories and happiness for others as it has for me.

At first, I joined UC Toastmasters Club to improve my English and get more comfortable with public speaking. What I found was a community that was warm, welcoming, and genuinely supportive, where you can be a little theatrical and have fun in a speech while knowing that everyone is cheering you on. I've learned to think on my feet during table topics, which has been surprisingly useful for interviews. Beyond the skills, I've found friends who make every meeting something to look forward to. I'm grateful to be part of this club.

My first encounter with Toastmasters was during my first year in university, when I came across a banner for the demo meeting. However, my confrontational anxiety and stage fright got the better of me, so I decided to opt out of it. However, in my second year of university, I decided to take the leap of faith and jump out of my comfort zone and oh dear should I say that I regret not joining Toastmasters right away in Year One and missing out on all the fun and sweet memories I could've made. UCTMC has helped me discover a version of myself I was too afraid to seek out - genuinely enjoying talking in the stage and the sense of accomplishment that came after it even though my legs were literally giving out just seconds before my prepared speech, but most important of all the camaraderie and the sense of community within the club was something I did not expect upon joining. I genuinely enjoyed interacting with my peers, the constant banter, our inside jokes, our post-meeting discourse by the swimming pool and so many other sweet memories that I will always cherish for the rest of my life. During this period, I have seen myself grow as a person, get more confident, capable and steadfast. Having been elected as the Vice President of Membership for this cabinet, I am committed to spread this opportunity far and wide, so that others can also undergo this transformative journey and create their own lasting, joyous memories within our community.

Hi there! my name is Caleb, I'm excited to be a part of the 22nd UCTMC Exco! I joined this club due to its warmth and inclusivity towards new members, as it became a safe space for me to express myself and practice my public speaking skills. I joined the Exco as one of the vice presidents of membership, I want to un-gatekeep this place and welcome new members to this wonderful friend group, while making sure to be as inclusive to everyone as possible so this can become a safe space for you as well!

I've always loved the stage, so when I learnt about UCTMC in Year 1, I signed up almost instantaneously. I expected a friendly club, but everyone's been supportive beyond my wildest dreams-- everyone pushed me on even when I faltered, making sure that I knew mistakes weren't the end of the world, and that I could always do better next time. The club feels less like a club than a laarge friend group, and I will give my all in supporting UCTMC as the Vice President of Membership this year!

For me, joining United College Toastmasters felt like finding a home away from home. As an international student, I instantly felt welcomed into a tight-knit, inclusive community where diversity is celebrated. I was truly grateful for its meetings - which gave me the ultimate freedom for creative expression: a judgment-free zone to share my voice, test wild speech ideas, and stumble forward alongside friends who truly wanted to see me succeed.

Now that I’m taking on the treasurer role, things have come full circle. Balancing the budget and funding our upcoming projects is definitely a new challenge, but I'm very happy knowing my work behind the scenes keeps our club running smoothly. I'm ready to make sure we have the resources to keep this amazing space alive.

When I first joined UCTMC, my reason was simple—I just wanted to improve my storytelling skills. But as time went on, I realized I gained far more than I had expected. UCTMC truly feels like a magical place: the atmosphere is friendly and encouraging, and after listening to others share their speeches, you can’t help but feel inspired to step onto the stage yourself. Through each meeting and every speech, you gradually build confidence, and along the way, you also find yourself surrounded by a group of like‑minded friends.

UCTMC also gives you space to develop your creativity. As an ExCo member, if you have a topic you’d like to explore or a special event you want to organize, you’re free to bring it up—and everyone will work together to make it happen. You always have the freedom to express your ideas.

If you’re looking to enrich your university life, I truly believe joining this club is something you won’t regret.

In my first year while looking for extracurriculars to join, it was a bit of a struggle to find anything I could truly participate in as an international student that couldn’t speak Cantonese. However, at the UC Art fair I learned about UC Toastmasters! At the time I joined most of my friends at UC were just people at my own hall, so I figured, why not join and make some more friends while also improving my public speaking?

I was immediately drawn in by the club’s welcoming atmosphere, and everyone there was so friendly. Even though it took me a while to be confident enough to go up to the podium to speak, I quickly realized no one here judged me at all, and we were all in the same boat trying to make friends and improve our skills! I really wanted to stay in this club and help newcomers feel comfortable as well, so I joined the ExCo as a secretary! I look forward to more fun moments and self-improvement alongside the rest of the club the following year!

I learned about UCTMC through a great speech given by our past President, Alan, at the UC Ocamp. I decided to check it out further at the demo meeting and found it to be a blast, especially table topics. I joined and discovered that UCTMC is more than the meetings themselves, but also a great group of people who I love hanging out with at our after-meeting snacks. Now in year 2 I have decided to join the Exco as the Sargent at Arms to be more involved in UCTMC.

As an international student from Vietnam studying in the technology field, it hasn't always been easy for me to make friends or feel fully included. Joining the UC Toastmasters Club completely changed my university experience. I initially joined as a member in 2025. The environment here is incredibly welcoming, and the club quickly became a big family to me. With their constant support, my university life has felt wonderful and complete.
