The 19th Executive Committee

President

Wong Wai To, Victor

Speaking in front of a crowd has always been torture to many timid introverts like me. A 5-minutes presentation in front of my classmates is more than enough to make me sick from stress. Public speaking is something that I detest, but not as much as the agony of having countless thoughts while being unable to articulate them. Therefore, I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined the family of UCTMC. Through siries of regular meetings, I gradually overcome my inside fear of public speaking.

Coming to be the president of the 19th Cabinet, I look forward to returning the favor to the club by leading all members to advance in this voyage together.

Perhaps you believe that you would never be a speaker in any way, like those featured in TED presentations and news, standing in front of thousands of people and delivering speeches.  But you will need to communicate with a complete stranger at some point in your life, whether it be in your mother tongue or in English. It might be a presentation for your instructors or supervisors or a brief self-introduction speech during an interview.  Welcome to Toastmasters if your goal is to develop your ability to communicate your ideas clearly in English or even just to make more friends.

When I joined CUHK, I used to shy away from speaking English due to grammar and vocabulary concerns. However, I decided to break free from my timidity and found the perfect platform for improvement at UCTMC. Through prepared and impromptu speeches, I practiced English speaking and shared my views on social and pop culture topics during table topic sessions. After a year of active participation, I now feel more comfortable conversing in English.
In 2023-2024, I am honored to serve as the Vice-President of Education at UCTMC. I aim to contribute captivating and thought-provoking topics to engage more students in our meetings. Together, let's create an environment that nurtures growth and self-expression as we inspire and support each other in developing our English communication skills!

I wonder why my Engliah was so bad before especially speaking skills. Although the English exams and tests during primary and high school didn’t make me feel discouraged, when it comes to speaking, I always can’t say what I am thinking. At the same time, I love this language and the American culture a lot, therefore I started to speak more English in my daily live as if I am learning this language in a native way. Joining UCTMC, all the members can at least dive into an English environment so that we could expert our proficiency!! We no longer only use English for handing in assignments or business occasions-which was why I might hate English a lot before.

Secretary

Leung Shun Hi, Thomas

Hi there! I'm Thomas. I'm thrilled to be part of the 19th Executive Committee of UCTMC. This role is more than a position for me, it's a journey, a chance to help guide our club towards greater heights. I'm a firm believer in the power of communication and the impact it can have on our personal and professional lives. As your secretary, I get to live this belief every day. My goal is to ensure our club runs smoothly and continues to be a place where we all grow and shine. I'm eager to get to know each of you, learn from your experiences, and share in our collective growth. When I'm not busy with club duties, you can find me immersed in a good book or hiking in the great outdoors. I'm really looking forward to this journey with all of you. Let's make this a great year for the United College Toastmasters Club!

Towards the forth year of joining Toastmasters, you'd think public speaking would've been an easier task. Truth is, fear and stress are always there when I'm to present. But over the years, I've grown - I learnt to write better scripts, place a little more trust in myself. Nothing is more rewarding than looking back and see your own progress. Public speaking is a long haul journey, and I am most grateful for all who walk along and guide me in UCTMC.
